Is that me the self ? If it is the self, every time I see different objects the self should keep changing. If what I am is a result of what I see, then how do I have any control on such a self ? Do I just let it continually get created and modified by the thoughts which it is made up of ?

The car and me.
I see a car. Immediately many thoughts arise in my mind. Such thoughts create a sense of self. Suppose I see a stone it would not generate as many thoughts because it is of less use to me. Every time we open our eyes the eye is bombarded with millions of photons (light particles). A stone may send as many light particles as a car would send. But the brain processes the light from the car to a great extent than it would process that from the stone. The reason is clear.
What creates the thoughts is the processing of the sensory data (here light falling on the eye).
So normally what we call as self is the collection of thoughts created by processing the sensory data.
In nutshell seeing something and thinking about it creates me : seeing the car creates me.
After that I see something else. I continue to engage in this activity creating an unbroken chain of thoughts. I therefore continually create myself. This makes me have a strong sense of self. A self which likes a particular car, who does not like another car. A self which has likes, dislikes.

Why Inquire ?
Our education has largely made us compete with others, leaving little time for one to question the idea of such a competition.
Such competition creates anxiety and fear in us. Fear of failure; fear of success. Fear blurs the eye, distorts the vision. Makes humans incapable of doing even simple tasks.
The sole purpose of real education is creating fearlessness and aiding in discovering the true self. In the absence of such an ambiance, it is necessary for us to peep inside and inquire into the process of education, and understand the plight of the self within, a task which is very personal.

About the blog
I am writing this on the request of a few friends. The blog will mainly focus on inquiry into the nature of self. Those who are on a journey of understanding the self are welcome to read this blog.
The blog is a series of posts which are mostly interconnected which reveal the nature of the real self by making the reader question himself. It is not that my understanding is final. It is an attempt to share what I have discovered in my journey and share it with the readers.
